Through the 4th industrial revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic, the
hotel industry requires new changes in the employment and job environment
due to the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence(AI) and robot
technology and intensifying competition. Recently hotel companies are
implementing layoff or downsizing to reduce employees and job
characteristics are also changing due to the increase in non-face-to-face
service according to the development of technology. The changes in the
employment and job environment may cause job instability and affect
customer orientation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the
effects of changes in employment and job environment on job instability and
customer orientation perceived by employees due to the implementation of AI
and robot technology in the hotel.
An online survey was conducted from November 24, 2022 to November 30, 2022, for the employees who are currently employed in the hotel with AI and
Robot technology and a total of 250 copies were used for the analysis. SPSS
statistics version 26.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used for empirical
analysis and the main results of this study are as follows.
First, lay-off and changes in the organization structure, which are
sub-factors of changes in the employment environment had a significant
effect on job instability of employees and changes in job performance
competency which is sub-factor of changes in the job environment had a
significant effect on job instability.
Second, none of sub-factors of changes in the employment environment had
a significant effect on customer orientation but both changes in job
characteristics and changes in job performance competency which are
sub-factors of changes in the job environment had a significant effect on
customer orientation.
Third, job instability had no significant effect on customer orientation.
This study found that hotel employees’ perceptions of changes in the
employment environment and job environment by implementation of AI and
Robot technology in hotel were significantly related to their job instability and
customer orientation.
The results of this study show that it is important to establish a human
resource management program for members to reduce job instability and
increase customer orientation through appropriate education and training
system.
