The incompatibility of the admixtures of Yamatetan®(Cefotetan Sod.), which is one of the third generation Cephamycin series, with H₂-receptor antagonist injections was studied. Yamatetan 19/DW 10㎖ was mixed with several practical concentrations of H₂-receptor antagonist injections, such as Tagamet®(Cimetidine), Gaster®(Famotidine) and Zantac®(Ranitidine). These admixtures were checked for the visual changes and tested for pH and assayed the residual potency by using a stability-indicating HPLC assay method at room temperature(20℃±2). The visual changes were not appeared in the admixtures of Yamatetan 1g/Dw 10㎖ with Tagamet 200㎎/2㎖, Gaster 20㎎/DW 5㎖ and Zantac 50㎎/20㎖ respectively. Whereas, in the high concentrations of Tagamet (3Amp.×200㎎/2㎖) and Gaster (2Amp.×20㎎/DW 5㎖), cloudy visual changes were appeared in the upper part of the admixtures, but these were disappeared after shaking. The admixtures showed visual changes were Yamatetan 1g/Dw 10㎖ and Tagamet 4Amp.×200㎎/2㎖ ; Gaster 4Amp.×20㎎/DW 5㎖. However when these admixtures were mixed with the large volume
parenterals the visual changes were disappeared. The changes in pH and residual potency of the admixtures examined in the study were negligible. The data suggests that the administration via Ⅳ push of Yamatetan with Tagamet and Yamatetan with Gaster is not recommendable.
