      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Background and Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the severity of depressive disorder and the rating scales. Materials and Method : One hundred fourteen individuals with major depressive disorder or depressive disorder, not otherwise specified were recruited in the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, Incheon St. Mary’s Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea. The participants completed examination, which included observer-rating scales and self-rating scales for depressive symptoms. We investigated correlation between the severity of depression and the symptom rating scales. Results : There was significant relationship between the scores of scales and severity of depression. There is stronger correlation between scores of observer-rating scales and severity of depression than between scores of self-rating scales and severity of depression. However, in the severe group, all scales show higher correlation between scores of scales and severity of depression. Conclusion : It tends to be more accurate using observer-rating scales to distinguish the severity of depression than other groups. However, in the severe major depression, both observer and self rating scales and the number of depressive symptoms are considered as tools to measure the severity of depression
