The Kidd blood group system was discovered by Allen, Diamond and Niedziela in 1951. The new antibody was found in the serum of a mother Mrs. Kidd, this child was her first to suffer from hemolytic disease of the newborn. The new antigen, Jka, was shown to be ingerited by means of a gene capable of expressing itself in single or in double dose when Race, Sanger, Allen, Diamond and Niedziela tested 51 families with 124 childrens.
The blood of 86 professional donovs and patients was tested with anti-Jka sera by us, with these results
Total Jka(+) Jka(-)
96 56 40
%. 0.5833 0.4167
The gene frequencies could be calculated thus :
The gene Jka=1/0.4167 =0.6455
Jkb=1-0.6455 =0.3545
The genotypes froquencies would therfore be:
JkaJka= (0.3545)2=0.1256
JkaJkb=0.3545x0.6455x2=0. 4577
JkbJkb = (0.4167)2=0.2518
It is noteworthy that there is relatively low incidence of Jk(+)antigen, comparing with the frequency in Caucasians.
According to the calculated data carried out by us, the usefulness of Kidd blood group tests for the chance of excluding paeternity in Korean should be emphasized
