physical properties and synthesis of hydrogel PHEMA were studied.
Synthesis of hydrogel PHEMA was carried out by the method of solution polymerization using sodium pyrosulfite and ammonium persulfate as redox initiators, EGDMA as crosslinking agent and H_2O as solvent. And the reaction was completed in the oven at 60℃.
Membranes were casted in two glass plates with crosslinking ratio X = 0.0025, 0.005, 0.0075, 0.01, 0.025. 0.05 at ambient temperature.
Identification of PHEMA was done with instrumental analysis such as IR and NMR spectroscopy. Also thermal analysis teas carried out with DSC. The values of glass transition temperature (T_g) were 57℃, 62℃, 66℃, and 69℃ corresponding to the crosslinking ratios X = 0.0025, 0.0075, 0.01 and 0.05 respectively.
M ̄c(g/mol) of the PHEMA membranes at 37℃ were in the range of 1212-22028 and mesh size (Å) within the range of 10.9-49.6. The results of the swelling experiments in water showed that M ̄c and mesh size decreased simultaneously as the crosslinking ratio and the volume fraction of swollen PHEMA membranes increased. The degree of swelling was in the range of 1.5691-1.8358 and equilibrium water content was in the range of 30.88%-36.43%.
