This study empirically analyzed the factors affecting the elderly voice phishing victims as part of basic research to establish appropriate policy alternatives for restraining victims and protecting the elderly, who are the main targets of voice phishing. As a result, it was suggested that the common factor affecting the elderly's voice phishing experience was drinking. Also, for the male elderly, it was suggested that cognitive ability was a significant factor, and for the female elderly, it was suggested that emotional factors were a significant influence.
The results of this analysis suggested that the possibility of being victimized by voice phishing among the elderly was increased by cognitive ability decline compared to the youth group. Furthermore, neurobiochemical and neuroanatomical factors that occur for the elderly, emotional problems such as emptiness after retirement, loss or separation of family, and social isolation caused by reduced mobility cause depression and reduced quality of life. Also, it can be interpreted that it has significant effects on crime victims such as voice phishing.
In addition, when the elderly are exposed to excessive and continuous drinking due to such emotional problems, it suggests that it could become a catalyst for increasing the possibility of the criminal victim, Therefore, to restrain voice phishing victims among the elderly, first, it is necessary to expand and improve preventive education to protection the elderly from voice phishing victims caused by relatively low cognitive ability. Second, institutional strategies for overcoming the digital polarization experienced by the elderly should be expended. Third, the possibility of voice phishing victims should be reduced by preventing emotional problems such as depression through systematic psychological support for the elderly, and continuous management of elderly people with emotional problems. Fourth, in order to prevent the elderly from being harmed by voice phishing as well as improve their quality of life, preemptive prevention efforts against problem drinking, such as drinking prevention and anti-alcoholic education should be expanded by the government and local government levels.
