Objectives:
On the basis of literature, this study was for verifying the effects of the lavender essential oil which was best used for the people depressed and with anxiety. Depression and Anxiety were all states of imbalance. Lavender essential oil exerts a subtle influence on the mind. Inhaling lavender had various effects on the mind.
Methods:
This study was based on the books and materials connected with aromatherapy and Lavender essential oil. And some materials were classified by the effects of Lavender essential oil associated with depression and anxiety or insomnia which were recently issued.
Results:
1. This study has shown that lavender fragrance influences human mood and has an antidepressant effect in depressed people. Lavender essential oil was an non-invasive treatment. Lavender essential oil was rapidly absorbed by inhalation and altered brain function.
2. Aromatherapy massage using aroma essential oil helped the patients who were suffering from cancer and alleviated their anxiety and depression. And inhaling lavender essential oil and massage reduced psychological distress and anxiety.
3. Lavender aroma had a profound and beneficial effect on sleep length and could improve quality of life. Sedative and relaxing effect of lavender acted on the patients' sleep pattern.
Conclusion:
Further investigations are required to confirm the anxiolytic and depressive effects in men and children. More objective and long-term controlled studies are needed to confirm the beneficial effects of Lavender oil for depression and anxiety.
