국악사 양성소와 국립국악고등학교의 초창기 여성 거문고 연주자 고찰 = A Study of Early Female kŏmun'go Musicians of Kugaksa Yangsŏngso and Gugak National High School

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이글은 한국의 현대 음악사에서 남성의 악기로 인식된 거문고의 역사에서 여성 거문고 연주자를 주목하기 위한 시도의 하나로, 여성 거문고 연주자의 출현과 여성 음악가 5인을 주목하였다. 1955년 해방 이후 국가에 의해 처음 운영된 국악 교육기관인 국악사양성소(國樂士養成所)는 남성 교육기관으로 시작되었고, 학제의 변화에 따라 국립국악고등학교 승격 이후 거문고 전공자의 성별 변화를 검토하였다. 이에 본 고에서 조명한 여성 거문고 연주자는 국악사 양성소와 국립국악고등학교를 거쳐 서울대학교 출신인 이재화·황해영·홍선숙·김진희·장은선이다. 이들의 음악 활동은 여성의 정체성을 추구하는 여성주의 사회운동은 아니었으나, 당시 남성 거문고 연주자의 부재라는 시대의 특수성과 맞물려 여성 거문고 연주자의 위상을 확고히 하는 계기를 마련했다.

This article is one of the attempts to focus on female kŏmun'go players in the historical context of Korean contemporary music, where the kŏmun'go has traditionally been regarded as a male-dominated instrument. It examines the emergence of female kŏmun'go musicians and focuses on five prominent female performers. Established in 1955 as the first national institution for traditional Korean music education, Kugaksa Yangsŏngso(國樂士養成所) initially operated as a male-dominated institution. Following changes in the educational system and its elevation to a Gugak National high school for traditional music, this study examines the shifts in gender demographics among kŏmun'go majors. This study examines the musical contributions of these female kŏmun'go musicians, which, while not aligned with feminist social movements focused on gender identity, became instrumental in solidifying the status of female performers. This development was catalyzed by the unique historical context marked by the absence of male kŏmun'go players during that period.
