Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm whether the social support for foster care children affects career maturity through self-efficacy and stigma.
Methods: The analysis was conducted using data from 265 children who participated in the ‘Korea Foster Care Children Panel Study(third wave)’. As Statistical methods, Structural Equating Modeling, bootstrapping, and a phantom model analysis were utilized to analyze the mediating effect of self-efficacy and stigma on the effect of social support on the career maturity of foster children.
Results: The study results are as follows. First, social support for foster care children did not directly affect career maturity. Second, social support for foster care children affected career maturity through self-efficacy. Third, social support for foster care children affected career maturity through a sense of stigma.
Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, measures to increase the career maturity of foster children are discussed.
