With advancements in society, technology, and extreme sports, high-altitude adventure behaviors have become increasingly complex. Despite significant risks, individuals continue to pursue climbing— driven by factors such as intrinsic motivation, risk perception, and emotional regulation. This study examines these influences using Siguniang Mountain as a case, exploring adventure drive, risk challenges, risk returns, and emotional balance. Employing call theory, Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), and fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA), the findings reveal that high-altitude adventure behavior arises from the interplay of multiple factors rather than any single determinant. Nine causal condition combinations were identified and classified into four types: incidental adventuring, intrinsic drive, emotion and value-driven, and a mixed type balancing intrinsic drive and emotional regulation. The results highlight the complexity of high-altitude adventure behavior, shaped by both internal motivation and external influences like risk return and emotional balance.
