물질주의적 희망과 사회경제적 지위의 역할: 현재 삶의 만족 및 미래 희망과의 관계를 중심으로 = The Role of Hope based on Materialism and Socioeconomic Status: Focus on the Relation with Life Satisfaction and Future Hope

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 물질주의에 기반한 희망, 현재 삶의 만족도과 미래 삶에 대한 희망 간 관계를 탐구하였고, 세 변수 간 관계에서 사회경제적 지위(객관적 사회경제적 지위, 주관적 계층 의식)의 조절적 역할을 탐색하였다. 2,510명의 한국인을 대상으로 희망에 대한 인식, 현재 삶의 만족도 및 미래 희망을 측정한 자료를 활용하여 분석한 결과, 첫째, 물질주의적 희망은 개인의 현재 삶에 대한 만족 및 미래 삶에 대한 희망과 부적 관계를 보였다. 둘째, 물질주의적 희망이 현재 삶에 대한 만족도를 통해 미래 희망에 이르는 간접효과는 유의하였다. 셋째, 물질주의적 희망과 현재 삶에 대한 만족도 간 관계, 물질주의적 희망과 미래 삶에 대한 희망 간 관계는 객관적 사회경제적 지위와 주관적 계층 의식 수준에 따라 조절되지 않았다. 마지막으로, 현재 삶의 만족도와 미래 희망 사이의 관계가 사회경제적 지위에 의해 조절되었기 때문에, 물질주의적 희망이 현재 삶에 대한 만족도를 거쳐 미래 삶에 대한 희망에 이르는 경로에서 사회경제적 지위에 따른 조절된 매개효과를 확인하였다. 상기 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 한계점 그리고 후속연구 제언을 하였다.

This research explores the relationships among hope based on materialism (HBM), current life satisfaction, and future hope, and examines the moderating role of socioeconomic status (SES) on the relationships of HBM with life satisfaction and future hope. To that end, we analyzed the data from 2,510 Koreans who reported their subjective perceptions of hope, life satisfaction, future hope, and SES. In terms of examining the statistical significance of the indirect effect, a bootstrapping method was used. Primary findings are as follows. First, HBM was negatively associated with life satisfaction and future hope. Second, the indirect effect of HBM through current life satisfaction on future life hope was significant. Third, SES failed to qualify the association between HBM and life satisfaction or between HBM and future hope. Lastly, there was significant moderated mediation where SES moderated the indirect effect of HBM on future hope through life satisfaction. We discussed not only the implications of these results but also their limitations.
