원어민 영어교사의 한국학생 수업경험을 통한 문화이해에 관한 내러티브 탐구 = A Narrative Inquiry on Cultural Understanding of Native English Teachers through Class Experiences with Korean Students

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 원어민 영어교사의 한국학생 수업경험을 통한 문화이해에 관한 내러티브 탐구이다. 이 연구는 원어민 영어교사들의 내러티브를 분석하면서 그들이 낯선 이국에서 경험하고 있는 문화적 상호이해의 어려움을 극복해가는 과정을 드러내고, 한국사회 속으로 들어와 단기간 살아가고 있는 원어민 영어교사들이 경험하고 있는 일의 의미와 문화 인식의 변화와 개인적 삶의 성장을 드러내는 것을 지향하고 있다. 또한 이 연구는 그들이 경험하고 있는 기존 문화와 한국문화 간의 다름으로 인한 긴장과 대처의 과정에 대한 그들의 내러티브를 분석함으로써 다른 원어민 영어교사들의 적응에 도움을 줄 수 있는 경험적 제언을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 이 연구는 한국에 3년 이상 근무한 원어민 영어교사 8명을 연구참여자로 선정하여, 한국에서 원어민 영어교사로서 수업과 생활을 통해서 경험한 그들의 인식의 변화에 대한 내러티브를 분석하고, 그 변화가 가져다 준 의미 등을 드러내면서 그들이 수업 경험을 통해서 경험한 문화 이해와 개인적 삶의 변화에 대한 해석적 의미를 찾아보았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This narrative inquiry is to explore and figure out native English teachers’ understanding of cultural differences through class experiences with Korean students. Through the analysis of native English teachers‘ narratives, this inquiry reveals the process of overcoming the difficulties in mutual understanding of cultural differences that they are experiencing in Korea. By analyzing their narratives of the process of coping with the cultural differences and psychological tension in Korea, this inquiry can present empirical suggestions that can help other native English teachers adapt. This narrative inquiry selects eight native English teachers who have worked in Korea for more than three years as research participants. This inquiry analyzes their narratives, and reveals the changes in their perception of other culture that they have experienced through English classes and life in Korea, and searches for the interpretive meaning of their understanding of cultural differences and the changes of personal life in Korea.
