문학 작품“멀리서 읽기”: 한강의 <채식주의자> 번역본 텍스트 분석 = “Distant Reading” of a Literary Work: with Reference to the Translation of < The Vegetarian > by Han Kang.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since distant reading was suggested as a way of reading, there have been many studies to explore the ways of distant reading of literature. Using computer-aided visualization tools is one of the various ways of distant reading. In this paper, we attempt to conduct distant reading of the English translation of the novel < The Vegetarian >, the winner of the prize of Man Booker International 2016, originally written by Han Kang in Korean. Using various tools for text analysis and visualization, we analyze the text, focusing on the frequency, LDA topic modeling, and sentiment analysis, of which the results we cannot obtain from close reading. We show that the computer-aided text analysis can be a useful supplement of close reading of a literary work, despite some limitations which need to be handled in close reading.
