The influences of ammonium chloride induced-Acidosis and sodium bicarbonate with sodium citrate induced-Alkalosis upon the salivary gland, thymus, heart, liver, kidney and adrenal glands of rats were histopathologically studied and the results obtained were as follows:
1. The thymus in the acidosis group is infiltrated by a few eosinophils and neutrophil leucocytes, and a few eosinophils and round cells are seen in the alkalosis group.
2. The myocardium of the rats is revealed more degenerative changes and necrosis in the alkalosis than in the acidosis group.
3. More remarkable degeneration of the renal tubules is found from the rats of acidosis.
4. In the liver, mild non-specific reactive hepatitis is notable from the rats of both alkalosis and acidosis.
5. Slight nucleomegalic changes are seen from the salivary glands of the both experimental animal groups.
6. Very slight lipid depletion in the cortex of adrenal glands is visible from the both groups of experimental animals.
