남북한 주민 통일의식의 통일교육에의 함의 = The Implications of the Unification Consciousness of South and North Koreans for Unification Education

The contents of the unification consciousness of North and South Korean people are important in that the Korean unification is completed through socio-cultural integration of the people. In this vein, this study identified the contents and characteristics of the unification consciousness of North and South Koreans, who are the actual subjects of the unification process and members of the unified community, and presented some implications for effective unification education in our society.
Firstly, North and South Koreans are increasingly inclined to approach the issue of unification from a realistic and pragmatic perspective, away from the conception of one national identity. Therefore, the significance of unification should be newly defined, and the positive unification effects that may occur after unification should be objectively reviewed and presented.
Secondly, North and South Korean people generally hope for unification and think that unification will improve the quality of life, but the expectations of the North Koreans are even stronger. Therefore, it is necessary to stimulate North Koreans' friendly thoughts on our society and to inspire expectations and aspirations for life in a unified community. To this end, it is important to emphasize the competence of a citizen to recognize and respect diversity and live together beyond the heterogeneity between the North and South Koreans.
