장년, 중년, 노년층의 이야기 담화 산출 특성 = Characteristics of Narrative Discourse in Early Middle-Ages, Late Middle-Aged, and Older Adult

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구목적: 노화는 인간이 환경과 상호작용하면서 자연스럽게 겪게 되는 현상으로 다양한 측면에 영향을 주게 된다. 이에 본 연구는 연령대 별 정상 성인들의 이야기 담화 능력을 살펴봄으로써 노화가 실제 언어 능력에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 장년층 16명, 중년층 16명, 노년층 16명에게 일상적인 주제를 포함하고 있는 연속 그림 9장을 순서대로 제시하여 이야기 담화를 산출하도록 하였다. 수집된 자료는 총 어절 수, 이야기 구성력, 부적절한 내용을 분석하여 세 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 있는지 알아보았다. 연구결과: 총 어절 수에서 세 집단 간에 유의한 차이가 확인되지 않았으나, 이야기 구성력(이야기 문법 비율, 완전한 일화 비율, 이야기 중요 내용 비율)과 부적절한 내용 비율에서는 학력과 어휘력을 통제한 후에도 세 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 확인되었다. 결론: 일반적인 성인들의 경우에도 연령이 증가할수록 담화 산출 시 불필요하고 부적절한 내용이 많아졌고, 이로 인해 이야기의 구성력과 이야기 전달 효율성이 떨어지는 경향이 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 성인들의 이야기 담화 능력을 평가하는 것은 노화가 이들의 실제 언어 능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 효과적인 방법임을 보여주었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Purpose: Aging occurs naturally as humans interact with their environment and affects various aspects of life. Accordingly, this study investigated how aging affects language skills by examining the storytelling abilities of healthy adults in each age group. Method: The participants were 16 early middle-aged, 16 late middle-aged, and 16 older adults. They were presented with nine sequential pictures depicting everyday-life scenarios and asked to produce a narrative discourse. The collected data were analyzed for the total number of words, story composition scores, and the rate of inappropriate content to determine whether significant differences existed among the three groups. Results: No significant difference was found in the total number of words among the groups. However, significant differences were observed in the story grammar scores, the number of complete episodes, important content scores, and the rate of inappropriate content. Conclusion: Even among adults, unnecessary or inappropriate content in discourse appears to increase with age. This study shows that evaluating adults' storytelling abilities could be an effective method for assessing the impact of aging on language skills.
