Physical security systems integrated with Information and Communication Technology(ICT) have led to the development and expansion of the physical security industry. As the existing system of individual units evolved into an integrated security solution, the complexity of physical security systems have increased, resulting in an increased level of expertise required to ensure the validity of these systems. However, the current situation lacks appropriate job competency standards used for training, recruitment, deployment, and evaluation of physical security system professionals, and previous research has not thoroughly analyzed the job duties of physical security system professionals.
The purpose of this study is to identify the duties of physical security system professionals by empirically analyzing job data and clearly identifying the scope of duties. The research question is to identify what types of duties of physical security system experts are classified through job analysis of physical security system experts, derive specific detailed duties for each type, and comprehensively analyze them to identify the duties of physical security system experts.
To solve this research problem, we used LDA topic modeling, text network analysis, and concordance text analysis methods, which are big data-based text mining techniques, on a large amount of job data in domestic and foreign job announcements. First, we examined core keywords using TF and TF-IDF frequency analysis on the collected job data, and classified job types through LDA topic modeling analysis. Next, we completed the basic structure of the network to derive detailed jobs through text network analysis, and performed semantic analysis by specifically identifying the surrounding context through co-occurrence word analysis and concordance text analysis to derive the final detailed jobs, and then comprehensively analyzed the results to identify the jobs of physical security system professionals.
The data collection targets were 12 major domestic and international job information sites, and we collected job data from postings made from December 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. We coded a web crawler for each site to crawl the job data, filtered out data outside the scope of collection and duplicate data, collected 8,563 job data, and performed data preprocessing.
As a result of deriving the job types of physical security system specialists, it was confirmed that physical security system specialists perform seven types of jobs, including 'policies and procedures, guidelines, etc.', 'problem solving, risk assessment, and operational strategy', 'communication, cooperation, and support', 'functional system control and operation', 'report writing management, training, records, and documentation', 'emergency response and emergency situation management', and 'asset protection such as key facilities and human resources'.
As a result of deriving detailed duties for each type of physical security system specialist, 12 duties were identified as "duties related to policies and procedures, guidelines, etc.", 14 duties were identified as "duties related to problem solving, risk assessment, and operational strategy", 8 duties were identified as "duties related to communication, cooperation, and support", and 14 duties were identified as "duties related to functional system control and operation", 14 for 'report writing management, training, records, and documentation', 8 for 'emergency response and emergency situation management', and 7 for 'asset protection such as key facilities and human resources'. Therefore, it was found that physical security system specialists have 77 detailed job duties within seven types of jobs.
Based on these findings, the following conclusions were drawn. First, the job of a physical security system specialist is to establish and maintain a systematic physical security system process to safely protect assets from threats at an organizational level. Second, the job of a physical security system expert is to operate a complex system in which various technical elements are integrated, fused, and linked to reflect the complexity of the physical security system, covering the job scope of integrated management that is linked to various elements and multifaceted. Third, the duties of physical security system specialists reflect physical security components such as architectural, structural, and human factors, covering the range of duties required for interaction between components to ensure the availability and effectiveness of the physical security system. Fourth, the duties of physical security system experts are organized according to the stages of physical security system implementation based on the framework of PDCA's circular structure and perform the functions of roles and responsibilities in each stage.
The significance of this study is that it is the first to present the job duties of a physical security system expert and to identify the operating model of a physical security system through an empirical study to understand how a physical security system is implemented in an organization. In addition, this study provides basic data for the development of curriculum for the training of physical security system experts and the recruitment, deployment, and evaluation of experts. It can also be utilized to develop a National Competency Standard (NCS) for physical security systems, which has not yet been established.
