엑스플로 74가 한국교회와 선교운동에 미친 영향 = Explo 74 and Its Historical Meaning in the Korean Church and Mission Movement

국문 초록 (Abstract)

1970년대 한국은 경제와 정치의 총체적 문제를 안고 미래를 개척하던 시기였다. 이 시기에 한국교회에 일어났던 엑스플로 ’74 대회는 급격한 변화와 위기를 경험하던 상황을 잘 극복하고 한국 민족과 교회가 어떤 방향으로 나아가야 할지를 잘 보여준 역사적 사건이라 할 수 있다. 이 논문은 엑스플로 ’74의 역사적 배경을 1970 년대 한국 사회와 교회의 상황을 중심으로 살펴보고, 이 대회에 미친 김준곤 목사의 영향력을 고찰하는 가운데, 엑스플로 ’74의 한국교회사적 의미는 첫째로, 한국교회 평신도운동의 토대와 교회연합운동의 발판 마련했다는 점이다. 둘째로, 대중전도운동과 교회성장의 기반 조성했다는 것이다. 셋째로는 김준곤 목사의 한국교회 결집과 민족복음화운동 및 세계선교운동의 저변을 확대하는 데에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다는 사실이다. 김준곤 목사는 초기의 귀한 신앙적인 특성과 전통을 해방과6.25전쟁 이후에도 한국교회와 사회에 효과적으로 실현하기 위해혼신의 힘을 다한 구국적 교회 지도자였다. 초기의 선교사들과 한국교회 지도자들이 참여한 개화와 민족운동, 복음전도를 강조하며부흥을 이루어 나가면서도 사회참여를 통해 한국사회에 지대한 공헌을 했던 아름다운 유산들을 김준곤은 그의 민족복음화운동에 담아 새로운 시대와 상황에 적용하기 위해 자신의 삶을 드린 것이다. 그런 면에서, 김준곤 목사의 민족복음화운동은 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 문화명령(창 1:28)과 선교·전도대사명(마 24:18-20)을 한국교회사 속에서 가장 잘 구현한 운동 중의 하나이며, 엑스플로 ’74 는 그러한 좋은 역사적 실례라고 할 수 있다

During the 1970s, South Korea was developing its future while the nation was facing general economic and political problems. Explo ’74, the five-day evangelistic training event that took place in a Korean church in Seoul during that period, considered a historical event that was able to overcame rapid changes as well as crisis and displayed the direction excellently in which both Koreans and Korean churches should head. This paper examines the historical background of Explo ’74; the focus will be on the situation of both society and the church in Korea in the 1970s, and its three historical significances as it reflects on Rev. Dr. Joon Gon Kim’s influence on this international Christian congress. First, it established a foothold for the foundation of the lay movements in the Korean churches and for the church union movements. Second, it made preparations for the Mass Evangelism Movement and the church growth. Third, Dr. Kim had a great capacity to have an effect on uniting Korean churches and expanding the base of the National Evangelism Movement and the World Missionary Movement. Rev. Dr. Joon Gon Kim was a South Korean church leader who did his very best to fulfill the valuable faithful characteristics and traditions of the early days effectively in the Korean church and society even after the days of the country’s liberation and the Korean War. He gave his own life in order to apply the beautiful legacies, which he contributed greatly made to Korean society through his social participation, in new generations and situations by capturing them into his national evangelism movement as he emphasized the enlightenment, the nationalist movement, and evangelism in which early missionaries and Korean church leaders participated, and achieved revival. In that respect, his national evangelism movement is one of the movements that best embodies two things in the history of the Korean church: both the cultural mandate (Gen esis 1:28) and the Great Commission (Matthew 24:18-20) that God has given to us; and Explo ’74 can be considered a good historical example.
