결함의 수용 : 결함의 효과적인 사용으로 생성된 시각표현 결과물 = Acceptance of the Defect

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As the modern society becomes mechanized and digitized, failure is gradually further away from our life, and the attitudes of people who do not tolerate errors or mistakes become accustomed to. Also in the design area, works are carried out with utmost care and in fine detail, in order not to allow errors in from the most basic tools such as grids and color up to the final stage such as printing. In this study, without focusing on the perfection, the starting point was the attention to abandoned aspects due to failure and mistakes.
A word 'defect' was chosen to express such incompleteness, which was interpreted to be a faulty part since it was insufficient or incomplete. Therefore, the defect itself is considered to be meaningful and interesting material, rather than discarding or fixing the defect and starting over. Being a starting point to find a novel visual expression, the defect is a way that can show another visual domain. This study was conducted with an attitude of enjoying the defect itself, not looking to find a solution to prevent it. Based on these concepts, works were carried out in such a way that an output of good emotion could be elicited out of defects through interesting visual elements brought by various forms of defects.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대사회가 기계화되고 수치화 되어감에 따라 실패는 점점
우리 생활과 거리가 멀어지고 오차나 실수를 용납하지
않으려는 사람들의 태도에 익숙해져 간다. 디자인 분야에서도
가장 기본적인 도구에 포함되는 그리드와 색, 마지막단계인
인쇄까지도 오차를 허용하지 않기 위해 세밀하고 신중하게
작업을 진행한다. 이 논문에서는 완벽함에 초점을 두지 않고,
그 이외에 다양한 이유로 만들어지는 실패와 실수로 인해
버려지는 부분들에 관심을 두는것으로부터 시작하였다.
이러한 불완전함들을 통틀어 결함이라는 단어로 표현하였고,
그 해석을 부족하거나 완전하지 못하여 흠이 되는 부분
이라 하였다. 그래서 결함을 버리거나 고치고 다시 시작하자는
입장이 아닌, 결함 그대로를 의미있고, 흥미로운 소재로
여긴다. 결함은 새로운 시각표현을 찾을 수 있는 시작이
되어 또 다른 시각표현영역을 보여줄 수 있는 방법이다.
결함을 해결하기위한 방법의 모색이 아니라, 그 모습
자체를 즐기고자 하는 자세로 연구하였다. 작업 또한 이러한
개념들을 바탕으로 여러 형태의 결함이 가져오는 흥미로운
시각요소들을 통해 결함을 좋은 감정의 결과물로 이끌어내는
작업으로 진행하였다.
