한강 문학과 포르투갈어 번역 수용 양상 = Reception Patterns of Han Kang's Literature in Portuguese Translation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2024년 한강의 노벨문학상 수상은 한국 문학의 세계적 위상을 높이며, 번역과 수용이라는 문학적 과제를 재조명하는 계기가 되었다. 본 논문은 한강 문학의 시적 산문과 독창적 서술이 번역 과정에서 어떻게 전달되었는지를 분석하는데 그 목적을 둔다. 특히 포르투갈어권에서 『채식주의자』가 중역본과 직역본으로 번역되는 과정에서 나타난 서구중심주의를 비판함과 동시에, 앙트완 베르만의 생산적 번역 비평 시각을 통해 번역가가 텍스트를 매개하는 방식이 텍스트의 이해와 문화적 정체성에 미치는 영향에 대해 고찰하고자 한다. 『채식주의자』의 세 가지 포르투갈어 번역은 표현과 문체 차이, 문화적 맥락 반영 여부에서 두드러진 차이를 보인다. 이를 파라텍스트적 관점을 바탕으로 분석하여 번역 전략의 선택에 따라 각기 다른 방식으로 텍스트를 매개할 때 발생하는 문화·언어적 변형의 의미에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해, 가독성과 충실성 사이의 균형을 유지하며 원문의 역사적, 문화적 맥락을 최대한 보존하는 번역 전략과 윤리적 접근의 중요성을 환기함으로써, 한국 문학이 단순히 콘텐츠로 소비되는 것을 넘어 보편적 가치를 지닌 문학으로 자리 잡기 위한 기반 마련의 필요성을 강조하고자 한다.

This paper aims to analyze how Han Kang’s poetic prose and unique narrative style have been conveyed through the translation process. It focuses particularly on the challenges of Eurocentrism in translation and the critical need to preserve cultural context, as exemplified by the three different Portuguese translations of The Vegetarian, available in both indirect and direct versions. Drawing on Berman’s perspective of productive translation criticism, the paper examines how translators mediate the text and the impact of this mediation on textual comprehension and cultural identity. Through a paratextual lens, this paper explores how different translation strategies lead to cultural and linguistic transformations in the text. By analyzing these differences, it highlights the significance of maintaining a balance between readability and fidelity while preserving the historical and cultural context of the source text.
