      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      In this study, I would investigate Yong Jae (용재) Saong Hyeon`s (성현) humanity and the theory of his literature and the nature of his poems, who was a prominent writer in the latter half of the 15th century.
      The main contents are as followings:
      First of all, in his human nature, he kept the ignorance (무지), the inactivity (무위), the heartlessness (무정), and the life+less+ness (무생) with the nature of Yong (용), So he stood aloof from the world, but his life was not removed from realities. As a writer as well as an official interested in the reign, he wrote many books in various fields.
      In the theory of literature, he emphasized the practicality of governing and took a serious view of literary arts and insisted the diversified variation and development of literature. According to his view of literature, he wrote many kinds of poems about society, national manners and customs, and elegance. His consciousness in these poems is like following:
      The poems of society in connection with the theory of governing literature have the most critical factors of reality in his poems. Because he was an official, he wrote poems with contents to admit the system of reality under the rule of sovereign power and to develop society in the system of reality and want to advance the life of people.
      The poems of national manners and customs treated with the various amusements, of the Court and the folk beliefs and in this field he emphasized the tradition of our culture.
      The poems of elegance treated with many matters of society and life and, because they have pertinent metaphors and satires, they move readers easily and they have instructions and enlightenments for society and people. So we should regard his literary works as of great importance.
      But, afterwards, his literary works did not seem to be made much of. Though there were many reasons for this, I think the most important reason was the centralization of power by Sarimpa (사림파) in the latter half of the 16th century. Sarimpa assumed leadership of all the political, social, and cultural matters, and, after their moral philosophy built up a style, Yongjaa`s inclination of seeking affer literary arts could not win public recognition.
      But, in the development of literature itself, his literature differed from the intolerant literary inclination of a master of Sarimpa, Jeompilje (점필재) Kim Jong Jik (김종직) and his disciples and he sought after the development of literature Itself rather than directing literature by the moral philosophy. Therefore, we can admit that his theory of literature and the nature of his poems like the interesting contents appeared in his many works have worthy and affirmative meaning.
