The purpose of this study was to identify the quality of life with Q-methodology. Statements related to quality of life were collected by open-ended questions.
Q-population consisted of 128 statements related to quality of life were collected by interview with general persons and the review of the related literature.
The collected statements were classified and categorized to 34 statements finally.
Q statements written in seperate cards were given to 19 subjects to sort them according to the degree of agreement and disagreement. The Q-sorts by each subject were analyzed with QUANL PC program.
As the result of analysis. 5 types quality of life were indentified. The characteristics of each type were as follows:
Type I was classified and named as "social wellbeing oriented type" who identified quality of life with interpersonal relationship.
Type 2 was named as "religious oriented type" who idetifield quality of life with the help of the omnipotent God.
Type 3 was named as "economic wellbeing oriented type" who identified quality of life with economic wellbeing state.
Type 4 was named as "self actualization oriented type" who identified quality of life with self actualization.
Type 5 was named as "family wellbeing oriented type" who idetified quality of life with family wellbeing.
Through the results of this study, the quality of life could be identified by 5 types, therefore the nurses they need to understand the each person's meaning to quality to life and develop the appropriate nursing intervention based the typology of quality of life this study explored.
