There are two types of automatic transmissions adopted in agricultural vehicles like a tractor. One is hydrostatic transmission and the other is conventional meshed gear type transmission which is typically high powered tractors are equipped with. The shifting process of gear type transmission is divided into three pahses which are the clutch filling pahse, torque pahse and inertia phase. Even though highly advanced digital control technologies are applied to improve the shift quality, optimal calibration of shift data during clutch filling phase is still a challenging work because only the open-loop control is applicable. This paper deals with the reasonable calibration method of clutch fill shift data by using clutch test functions those are implemented in TCU under development. The field test shifting results, which are obtained with the calibrated shift data from the proposed method during clutch filling pahse, show stable performance of the engaging clutch.
