Since its first publication in 1955, Allen Ginsberg’s long poem “Howl” has been expanded into the different media like film and graphic novel. “Howl,” which is Ginsberg"s most controversial work, represents the starting point of the Beat literary movement and shows the quintessence of Beat generation literature of the 1950s. In Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman"s film Howl of 2010, poetry, paintings, music, photographs, animation, etc. are excellently fused. Significantly, this film including animation of Eric Drooker shows various multilayered intermediality, transcending the boundaries of media. This paper investigates that the film Howl, which stands out the animated sequences by Eric Drooker, crosses the borders of fundamentally different media by mixing old and new footage such as poetry, letters, music, photography and animation.
