As entering the global era of content, the public's interest in foreign dramas, which had previously been difficult to access, has increased. In response to these changes, domestic broadcasters also actively imported content. As a result, viewers were able to easily access foreign dramas with Korean dubbing or subtitles on TV, and in the process, the Korean language-work of the foreign drama title logo was carried out. By focusing on the typographic characteristics of title logos generated through the conversion from English to Korean, this study aimed to compare and analyze their identities and to explore their relationships. The subjects and scope of the study include a total of 60 foreign dramas aired during the recent five years (2012-2016) when the audience ratings of KBS1, OCN, Channel CGV with active foreign drama content import started to rapidly increase. First, to analyze how the original typography re-designed with a certain visual relation to the original language, the formative elements such as serif, texture, color, proportion, slope, thickness, symbol were framed. Based on the framework, the study analyzed which formative elements were used, modified, or eliminated to maintain the visual relevance. According to the visual translation comparison analysis of the title logo so far, the result of the visual correlation was higher as the similarity of serif, proportion, slope, and thickness corresponding to formative elements correspondent with the original version. However, it was revealed that the Roman alphabet and the Korean alphabet were deformed or dropped out due to limitations from structural differences. In such cases, the supplementary elements such as texture, color, etc. were utilized or the relation to the original was abandoned to emphasize the genre characteristic. The results of this study are significant to summarize the efficient typography design methodology to understand the diverse and complex formative elements used in the visual translation process of the foreign drama title logos and to increase the relevance.
