마르크스와 자본의 시간 : 자본순환과 회전의 화폐이론

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자본의 순환과 회전(『자본』 2권 1,2편)은 주류경제학은 물론 마르크스경제학 내에서도 상대적으로 관심 받지 못한 주제이다. 그러나 자본 순환 및 회전 분석은 자본의 가치증식 운동이 시간을 매개로 어떻게 드러나는지를 보여줄 뿐만 아니라, 마르크스경제학의 약점으로 지적되는 화폐신용 이론을 발전시킬 요소들을 포함하고 있다. 무엇보다 자본주의 신용제도의 기초는 기생적인 가공자본이 아니라 화폐·생산·상품자본의 연속적인 순환에서 불가피하게 요구되는 화폐의 축장이다. 그리고 회전시간의 존재는 가치실현을 위한 신용의 개입을 필연적으로 요구하지만 동시에 신용은 자본회전에 모순적인 효과를 낳는다. 이처럼 화폐와 신용을 자본순환의 총체성과 회전의 연속성의 맥락에서 재조명하는 작업은 여타 경제이론들과 경합하면서 오늘날 금융자본주의의 특징을 파헤치는데 기여할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The circuit and turnover of capital (Das Kapital, Bd.Ⅱ) have received relatively scant attention in Marxian as well as mainstream economics. However, this paper highlights Marx’s analysis of capital’s movement over time and its implications, particularly on theories of money and credit. It is demonstrated that the basis of the credit system is, far from being merely a set of parasitic fictitious capital, but money hoarding as an inevitable consequence of the circuit of capital. Also, while turnover of capital per se unavoidably requires credit to fill the demand gap, such endogenous credit has contradictory effects on turnover time. Bringing these results together, we discuss some competitive findings of monetary nature of capital which can help comprehend contemporary financialized capitalism.
