The Joongdaesa Temple (中臺寺) under Joongdae rock of Bomunsan Mountain in Andong has recently been destroyed, and the altar portrait of Buddha and the three-story stone pagoda that were there remain in other places. The Joongdaesa Temple was a favorite temple of Joseon-era celebrities such as Yoo Seong-ryong (柳成⿓) and Kim Sang-heon (⾦尙憲), whose hometown is in Andong. In their records, some names of monks who lived in the Joongdaesa Temple are also handed down.
Kim Sang-heon who was a descendant of Monk Hakjo (學祖), used to soothe loneliness by visiting the Joongdaesa temple when he hid in Andong. About 30 years after Kim Sang-heon's death, Monk Domun (道文) from the Joongdaesa temple visited Kim Sang-heon's grandchildren and greatgrandchildren to ask for a poem with Kim Sang-heon's poem. This act, which has been repeated over a long period of time, can be confirmed in detail through the records of Kim Shin-gyeom (⾦信謙), the son of Kim Chang-eop (⾦昌業).
It is natural for descendants to respond to a request for a poem about ancestors's poetry, and it is natural for them to develop a liking for the monk who mediated them. The reason why monks established a relationship with Confucian by asking for writing is probably because it is socially advantageous to establish a relationship with the leaders of society. It is believed that since Monk Domun continued to make friends with the people of the Jangdong (壯洞) Kim family, making and maintaining ties with the family at the center of the culture of the time would have enhanced the social status of monks and temples.
