Purpose: The purpose of this study is to attempt to interpret the rapidly changing aspects of the fourth industry and modern social sports, focusing on Michel Foucault’s philosophical thought, and to help understand the new phenomenon of sports based on philosophical thought.
Method: We focused on Michel Foucault’s philosophical thought to interpret the aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and modern sports. To this end, the philosophical concept of Episteme was explained.
Based on this, representative phenomena of sports were presented, focusing on sports convergence, ethical issues, and e-sports in relation to the fourth industrial revolution.
Results: The shift in the transformational paradigm of sports in the context of the fourth industrial revolution is not based on the concept of ideal versus non-ideal. Instead, it is rooted in the human unconscious system, which varies based on the cultural and social phenomena of the times. Secondly, as the ethical issues in sports according to the fourth industrial revolution are conceptual products of the contemporary era, it may be meaningless to assess these ethical dilemmas as right or wrong based on any standard. Third, the debate on e-sports is a natural phenomenon within the modern knowledge system process created by humans.
Conclusion: In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, our society is undergoing rapid changes, encompassing social, cultural, and economic transformations. Therefore, we will have to engage in academic discussions from various perspectives, incorporating interpretive and occasionally critical approaches to phenomena. Through this, we aim to propose moving away from the narrow distinction between ideals and non-ideals in the inevitable fourth industrial revolution. Instead, we should seek a path for the convergence and advancement of the fourth industrial revolution and sports to promote the right sports existence.
