The purpose of this study is to develop a ‘parent education program with meditation’, apply it to parents with children in infancy, and then figure out how it affects parenting-related psychological variables. The subjects of this study were 28 parents of infants (14 in the experimental group and 14 in the control group) visiting an early childhood education institution located in S city. And for the experimental group, the program was conducted for a total of 14 hours, 7 sessions of 2 hours each week. The control group only participated in the parent education program (80 minutes per week) and did not receive any treatment related to meditation. Parenting stress, parenting efficacy, and psychological well-being scales were used to find out the application effect of the developed program. Mann-Whitney’s U-test was performed for the post-test to confirm the homogeneity of the two groups and the effect on each scale, and Wilcoxon’s non-parametric test was performed to find out the pre-post changes of the two groups.
Looking at the results of the study on the application effect, it was found that there was a significant effect on parenting stress, parenting efficacy, and psychological well-being, which are psychological variables of parents who experienced parent education programs with meditation. These research results mean that the ‘Parent Education Program with Meditation’ conducted for parents with children in infancy can be an effective alternative to positively improve variables related to parenting psychology.
