1950年代 大衆小說論의 展開 樣相 硏究 = (A) Study on the developing phrase of the Popular Novel Theory in 1950s

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 1950년대 대중소설론의 전개 양상을 통해 아직까지도 단편적이고 부분적으로 논의되어 왔던 1950년대 대중소설론을 종합적인 차원에서 검토함으로써 우리 근대문학사의 범위를 확장할 수 있는 길을 찾는 데에 의의를 두었다.
1950년대 대중소설론의 전개양상을 살피기 위해 당시에 신문이나 문예지에 실렸던 90여 편의 논의를 기초 자료로 삼았다. 이를 통해 1950년대의 일반적인 대중문학 논의를 비롯해 대중문학의 중요한 축이 되는 대중소설 자료를 기준에 따라 몇 가지 유형으로 분류하여 고찰함으로써 전체적인 대중문학론의 흐름을 조망해 보고자 하였다.
우리나라에서 대중문학에 관한 논의는 소수에 의해 산발적으로 이루어져 왔으며 그것도 대중문학에 관한 부정적 속성을 비판한 것이 큰 흐름을 이룬다. 대중문학론의 전개과정에서 ‘대중문학’이라는 용어가 어느 정도 확정된 시기는 50년대에 들어와서이다. 대중사회의 도래와 더불어 대중소설이 본격적으로 발돋움하는 계기를 신문소설이 만들었다는 점은 누구라도 인정할 수 있을 것이다. 또 제한적이기는 하지만 비판의식을 표출하는 기능을 신문소설이 수행하고 있었다는 점은 1950년대 대중소설의 두드러진 위상이라 할 수 있다.
문학의 비속화, 지나친 상업성의 추구, 기존 체제에의 순응이라는 대중문학의 부정적인 요소를 경계하면서, 한편 대중문학이 우리의 문학풍토에서 어떻게 정립되어 왔으며 대중문학이 성공하게 된 요인과 자질을 확인하는 작업은 오늘날 우리에게 반드시 필요한 과업이라 할 수 있다.
지금 우리는 문학뿐만 아니라 각 분야의 패러다임이 전환되는 문화적 변혁의 시대에 살고 있다. 이런 변화의 물결을 완고히 거부해서 과거의 문학관만을 고집해서도 안되고 그렇다고 무조건 새로운 것만을 추구해서도 안된다는 생각이 든다. 우리 문학의 전통을 폭넓게 수용하여 미래를 유연한 시각으로 통찰하는 자세가 필요하리라 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the developing phrase of th popular novel theory in 1950s and to get some general ideas of the popular literature. As the discussion on the popular novel in 1950s has been only in parts, this study places emphasis on the expansion of the literary realm by examining it comprehensively. For this purpose, over 90 articles and comments appeared in the newspapers and literary magazines in those days are also examined thoroughly.
In the developing process of Korean popular literature theory, the term of "The Popular Literature" was not settled until 1950s. The novels published in the newspapers in those days had quickened the development of the mass society and the popular literature. They also had an important role in terms of the critical consciousness. Nevertheless, with its several weak points there haven't been such satisfactory studies.
Only a small number of critics went into the discussion on the popular literature in 1950s. In addition, it was not an intensive discussion but a sporadical one. some critics also adhered to their negative viewpoints ; its vulgarity, the pursuit of excessive commercialization, and the sympathy with the existing system. However, it is indispensible to check the successful elements and qualities of the popular literature. we should not underestimate its efforts to improve the quality and should try to set the literary place correctly through it.
As a lot of things have been changing in all respects of the literary theory, we should be quick to adapt to the trend of the times. That is, the study on the popular literature should be continued with an affirmative concept and an overall outlook. In this point, this study is thought to be supply the theoretical basis for the later study on the popular literature.
