In ship outfitting and offshore plant design phase, the construction of an equipment catalog is necessary. Equipment 3D CAD data adopt different level of detail (LOD) depending on its purpose. Equipment supplier’s CAD data have high complexity whereas shipyard’s CAD data have low complexity. Therefore, an automation tool supporting the simplification of equipment 3D CAD data is necessary. In this paper, the simplification criteria and quantitative metric for 3D CAD assembly data are proposed. The prototype system was developed, and verified through experiment with test cases.
