A series of contact lens were prepared from 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA), ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA) and di(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether acrylate(DGA) or polyethylene glycol methacrylate(PGM). When the content of DGA was increased, there was a tendency of water absorbance to increase and contact angles to increase. In case of tensile strength, the strength decreased when the content of DGA increased. Contact lens containing DGA had comparatively hydrophilic property, thus, showed better protein resistance properties than HEMA-based hydrogel. The cross-section morphology of contact lens was examined by SEM to check whether or not micro-separation occurs. As a result, overall surface appeared to be smooth and uniform and couldn’t find any phase separation. Photo-polymerization was also applied instead of thermal polymerization to enhance the energy efficiency. As a result, the degree of reaction of PGM-1 was 80% within 40 s.
