베트남전 참전군인의 정신적 웰빙과 관련된 개인적‧가족적‧사회적 체계 요인 = Factors of personal, familial, and social aspects that relate to mental well-being among Korean Vietnam War veterans

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 우리나라 베트남전 참전군인들의 정신적 웰빙과 관련된 개인적・가족적・사회적 체계요인들을 검증하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구자료는 348명의 남성 참전군인으로부터 수집되었으며, 이들의 평균 연령은 약 72세(SD=2.6세)였다. 참전군인들의 정신적 웰빙 수준을 Keyes(2005)가 제시한 기준에 따라 세 가지 범주로 분류한 결과, 쇠약집단 26.7%, 양호집단 63.2%, 번영집단 10.1%로 나타났다. 일원 분산분석 결과, 번영집단은 쇠약집단에 비해 개인적 요인 중 낙관성, 주관적 신체 건강에서, 가족적 요인 중에서는 가족의 정서적 지지, 의사소통, 의사결정 도움에서, 사회적 요인 중에서는 국민의 사회적 지지, 국가 정책에 대한 인지 수준에서 유의하게 더 높은 수준을 보였다. 부가적으로 국가에 바라는 사항을 텍스트 마이닝 기법을 통해 분석한 결과, 참전군인 수당 인상과 노년기 건강 악화로 인한 의료 서비스 개선이 주요 관심사로 나타났다. 따라서, 우리나라 베트남전 참전군인들의 건강한 노화를 위해서는 개인 및 가족적 자원들을 증가시키는 노력과 함께, 사회공동체 차원에서 참전군인에게 긍정적인 사회적 지지를 제공하는 문화가 형성되어야 한다. 또한, 경제적 지원과 함께 의료 서비스 개선을 위한 사회정책도 도입되어야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The current study aimed to examine variables of personal, familial, and social aspects that relate to mental well-being among Korean Vietnam War veterans. The data were from 348 male veterans, and their mean age was 72 years (SD = 2.6 years). War veterans were classified into three groups (Languishing 26.7%,, Moderately Mentally Healthy 63.2%, and Flourishing 10.1%) based on the criteria of Keyes(2005). One-way analysis of variance showed that the Flourishing group was significantly higher than the Languishing group in terms of optimism, self-rated health (personal aspects), emotional support, communication, help for decision making (familial aspects), and community support and levels of knowledge on social policy for veterans (social aspects). Additionally, the text mining method showed that increase in war veterans pension and accessibility to medical service were the main issues that the government should do for the veterans. Therefore, it is important to establish a culture of respect for veterans in the community, as well as increasing personal and familial resources for resilience. In addition, social policy for financial support and medical service should be implemented for successful aging of Korean Vietnam War veterans.
