The experiments were made in order to separate unknown luminous substances which reacted positive to Bratton-Marshall method in urine to obtain quantitation of sulfamonomethoxin by thinlayer chromatography. The results were as follows :
1. Impure substances in urine should be separated in order to calculate exact quantity of sulfamonomethoxine in urine because both substances react positive to Bratton-Marshall method.
2. There are substances which react positive to Bratton-Marshall method in urine of human, pig, horse, goat, sheep, cat, cow, rat, dog and mouse, and their concentrations are much different from individuals and diurnal fluctuation.
3. Quantities of sulfamonomethoxine and luminous substances were imposible to estimate by spectrophotometry because both of their maximum optical densities were show at 560mμ.
4. It was proved that impure substance which reacted to 4 kinds of dimethyl aminocinnamaldehyde of which Rf values were different each other by thinlayer chromatography, were contained in urine luminous substances.
5. It was relatively easy to separate, by means of thinlayer chromatography, sulfamonomethoxine and luminous substances which react to Bratton-Marshall method in urine, and the thinlayer chromatography was valuable to use for the separation of reactants because it showed 80 ± 4% in recovery rate.
