강원도 영월의 마차리 단면(마차리층)에서 산출된 캄브리아기의 전기 푸롱통(Furongian Series) 코노돈트 화석군

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 강원도 영월의 마차리층에서 산출되는 캄브리아기의 전기 푸롱통 코노돈트 생층서대인 ‘Barren Interzone’의 코노돈트 데이터를 확보하기 위해 수행되었다. 코노돈트 연구는 영월군 북면 마차마을 동쪽 약 1 km 거리의 하상에 노출된 ‘마차리 단면’ (두께 41.2 m)을 대상으로 이루어졌다. 이 단면에서 채취한 18개 표품 중 11개 표품에서 많은 원코노돈트(protoconodonts), 준코노돈트(paraconodonts) 군집, 소수의 진코노돈트(euconodonts)와 삼엽충, 완족류, 해면동물의 골편, hyolithids와 같은 다량의 각질 화석이 함께 산출되었다. 표품별 코노돈트 산출량을 보면, Ma 5가 118 개체로 산출량이 가장 많아 전체의 68%를 차지하였고, 분류군별 산출량은 Furnishina(48 개체, 28%), Coelocerodontus(44 개체, 25%), Phakelodus(22 개체, 13%) 순으로 나타나 이들 3 속이 전체의 66%를 차지한다. 코노돈트는 모두 9속 29종이며, 그 중 생층서적으로 유용한 종은 Muellerodus? erectus, Prooneotodus rotundatus, Coelocerodontus bicostatus, C. kosangolensis, Furnishina longibasis, F. vasmerae, F. bicarinata, F. rara, Prosagittodontus eureka, P. minimus 등이다. 이들은 중국의 캄브리아기 전기 푸롱통에서 특징적으로 산출되는 코노돈트 종들이다. 이들 코노돈트의 산출에 근거하여 산출 범위(Ma 4-Ma 17)의 층준에 Muellerodus? erectus-Prooneotodus rotundatus대를 잠정적으로 설정한다. 이 생층서대는 기존의 ‘Barren Interzone’에 해당된다. 이로써 마차리층의 코노돈트 생층서대는 Westergaardodina matsushitai대, Muellerodus? erectus-Prooneotodus rotundatus대, Proconodontus muelleri대, Eoconodontus notchpeakensis대 등 4개 대가 인지되었다. Muellerodus? erectus, Coelocerodontus bicostatus, 그리고 C. kosangolensis는 캄브리아기 코노돈트 진화에 있어서 중요한 초기 진코노돈트들이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to get the Early Furongian (early Late Cambrian) conodont data from the “Barren Interzone” of the Machari Formation, Yeongwol, Korea. Conodonts considered herein were produced from the Machari section of the Machari Formation, exposed at about 1 km east of Machari Village, Puk-Myeon, Yeongwol, Korea. Eleven of the eighteen samples collected for conodonts contain protoconodont and paraconodont assemblages and small amount of euconodonts, with association of shelly fossils including trilobites, brachiopods, sponge spicules, and hyolithids. Sample Ma 5 is extremely fossiliferous (118 elements, 68% of total collection), and the most dominant genera were Furnishina (48 elements, 28%), Coelocerodontus (44 elements, 25%), and Phakelodus (22 elements, 13%), comprising 66% of the total collection. Among 29 species referable to 9 genera, biostratigraphically useful conodonts are as follows: Muellerodus? erectus, Prooneotodus rotundatus, Coelocerodontus bicostatus, C. kosangolensis, Furnishina longibasis, F. vasmerae, F. bicarinata, F. rara, Prosagittodontus eureka and P. minimus. The Muellerodus? erectus-Prooneotodus rotundatus Zone was erected for the stratigraphic interval (Ma 4-Ma 17) of this conodont fauna tentatively. This zone corresponds to the previous “Barren Interzone”. In view of the occurrences of the Early Furongian conodonts in China, this fauna was interpreted to be correlated with the zones of the same time span. Conodont zones of the Machari Formation added up to four: Westergaardodina matsushitai Zone, Muellerodus? erectus-Prooneotodus rotundatus Zone, Proconodontus muelleri Zone and Eoconodontus notchpeakensis Zone. Muellerodus? erectus, Coelocerodontus bicostatus and C. kosangolensis are very important earliest euconodont elements in relation of the conodont evolution in the Cambrian time.
