Meterial degradation due to the microstructural change as carbide precipitation and coarsening or segregation of impurity elements occurs during service in practical engineering fields. The degree of material degradation of structrual components can be detected and evaluated by measuring material characteristics change such as mechanical, physical and electrochemical properities. In this study, the degree of material degradation in various steles have been investigated semi-nondestructively by SP test and nondestructively by grain boundary etching method. The obtained results are summarized as follow ;
(1) There is a good correlation between the degree of grain boundary etching and of material degradation in Cr-Mo, carbon steels.
(2) Both SP Test and grain boundary etching method may be considered a useful tool for assessing the material degradation of structurall components at high emperature.
