국내 거주 외국인 유학생의 자살위기경험에 대한 합의적 질적 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

목적 본 연구는 국내에 거주하고 있는 외국인 유학생이 자살 위기를 어떻게 경험하는지를 탐색적으로 살펴보기 위하여 수행되었다. 보다 구체적으로, 직접적인 자살 위기에 대한 경험과 잠재적인 자살 위기에 대한 경험으로 구분하여 그 특성을 확인하고자 하였다.
방법 이를 위하여 총 6명의 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 하여 심층면담을 실시하였고, 합의적 질적 연구(CQR)의 방법에 따라 분석하였다. 연구 참여자는 유의적 표집 및 눈덩이 표집 방식을 통하여 선발되었다.
결과 연구 결과 총 6개 영역, 14개 범주, 43개 하위범주가 도출되었다. 이 중 6개의 영역은 ‘자살에 대한 생각을 해본 경험’, ‘문화적 차이 혹은 차별에 관한 경험’, ‘학업 수행의 어려움에 관한 경험’, ‘심리적 증상 발현에 관한 경험’, ‘소속감을 느낄 수 있는 존재의 유무에 관한 경험’, ‘주변에 방해가 되는 듯한 존재로서의 경험’이었다. 외국인 유학생들은 한국에서 생활하면서 직접적으로 자살에 대해 생각하게 되기까지 다양한 잠재적인 심리적 위기를 경험하는 것으로 나타났다.
결론 본 연구는 외국인 유학생의 자살 위기에 관한 경험적 특성을 확인함으로써 아직 초기 단계인 국내 외국인 유학생의 심리적 안전망 확대 관련 연구의 영역을 확장한다는 함의가 있으며, 외국인 유학생의 안정적인 적응을 돕는 보호 체계를 마련하기 위한 토대로 활용될 가치가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Objectives This study was conducted to examine how international students living in Korea experience a suicide crisis. More specifically, the suicide crisis was divided into two areas to confirm the experience. It is the experience of a direct suicide crisis and a potential suicide crisis.
Methods An in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of six international students and analyzed according to the consensual qualitative research method (CQR). Of the six total participants, three were Chinese students, two were Uzbekistan students, and one was a Kazakh student.
Results A total of 6 areas, 14 categories, and 43 subcategories were derived. Six of these areas were “experiences of thinking about suicide”, “experience of cultural differences or discrimination”, “experience with difficulties in academic performance”, “difficulties experienced in counseling,” “experience of belonging”, and “experience as a burden”
Conclusions This study is significant in that it provides an in-depth look at the experiences of international students who are experiencing a psychological crisis severe enough to consider suicide. In addition, it is valuable to be used as useful data regarding the development of suicide-related education programs and training courses for international student counselors in the future, as well as coping methods for crisis counseling for international students.
