From a study on polarographic reduction of p-nitrotoluene in dimethylformamide following results were obtained.
1. The first step of polarographic reduction with one electron was reversible and the reduction half wave potential (E_½) was -1.07V vs S.C.E.
2. As the concentration of supporting electrolyte, NaNO_3, increased E_½ was increased.
3. With the addition of acetonitrile E_½ was also increased.
These results are interpreted as association of cation and difference of solvation energy.
