During the period of Japanese imperialism, our people had overcome it with the indomitable spirit of resistance as enduring countless sacrifices in order to achieve a fully self-governing state. Such as, "the independence movement" was the driving force to move the modern history of Korea and could be regarded as the identity of our people. The movement of our people at this time was very complex and diverse and such activities had affected significantly the formation of the today's "Korean society".
Thus, the record of independence movement generated through the independence movement activities would be very important in understanding our modern era society, and it can regarded as an important record that has to be passed down since it contains the spirit and history of our people.
However, the reality of record management in our country is that the provision and the relevant direction for management as to the historical records inheriting the cultural heritages have not been clearly suggested. Therefore, they are not being managed systematically enough for the importance of the meaning for the independence movement to our country. Furthermore, given the issues such as the history disputes of East Asia, the distorted awareness of the modern history of the people, etc., it should be regarded as a more urgent issue.
The independence movement record is the subject that should be managed in consideration with the conventional methodology of archival study and the historical specificity of independence movement. However, the records related to the independence movement are currently being widely dispersed and it is not easy for general users to access them since each institute has a different management method.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to prepare a foundation of the integrated service of the independence movement related records through reproducing the independence movement activities through the records and also seeking for the methods of archival arrangement, description and stating the records that are dispersed in order to make it easy for users to access them. The approaching process for this is as follows.
The second chapter derives the necessity of provision for the integrated service through analyzing the concept and characteristics of the independence movement record and also the institutes that are managing the records related to the independence movement.
The third chapter examines the collection strategy for the integrated management for the records that are dispersed and derives the principal entity for the collection of the independence movement related records through the SWOT analysis. And it seeks for the methods of archival arrangement and description the independence movement records.
Lastly, the fourth chapter aims to reveal that the archival study theory is a useful theory in reality that can be applied to concrete cases rather than something that exists only in theory through applying the record of the Young Korean Academy that was the independence movement organization.
The vertical type search tool, which reflects the properties of record accepts the principle of record management from the administrative perspective, can show both of the production context and structure of records to users. However, it is difficult to use it and also the search tools for subjects that users want may be absent or the priority of technical writing may differ from users' requirement. It would be imperative to realize in a way that the records could be utilized through key word search for the integrated service of the independence movement related records. Even though this study has not covered it, it would be required to prepare a dictionary for search words in order to allow for key word search of the independence movement records. This process should be created through a long term work in cooperation with historians and information experts.
