상담자와 비행청소년의 관계형성 과정 분석 : 영화 ‘굿 힐 헌팅’을 중심으로 = An Analysis of the Relationship Process between the Counselor and Juvenile Delinquent in the Movie “Good Will Hunting”

Using the film “Good Will Hunting”, this study aimed to demonstrate that the perspectives of verity, unconditional positive acceptance, and empathy are major factors behind person-centered counseling, that elicit positive change for juvenile delinquents. Analysis were conducted using the “MATRIX analysis methodology”, to access both the dialogue and nonverbal components from the text of Will(counselee) and the positive changes occurring between professor Sean(counselor) and Will(counselee) during the significant counseling scenes in the film. This study’s findings showed that when a counselor applies person-centered counseling, an approach characterized by the perspectives of verity, unconditional positive acceptance, and empathy, the counselee experiences trust and acknowledges a sense of security and freedom of expression, and encompasses their problems. In addition, the counselee improves his interpersonal relationships and self-growth. The findings also revealed that person-centered counseling plays a significant role in the counselorcounselee relationship in the case of juvenile delinquents, and that the counselor’s attitude affects the counselee’s personality changes. Therefore, the findings suggest that public servants in social institutions should recognize the critical importance of counseling juvenile delinquents and use in-depth research on counselor education to develop quality counseling methods and techniques that take into account the traits of each juvenile delinquent.
