윤동주 시가 대중예술에 수용되는 방식 I-창작가무극 <윤동주, 달을 쏘다>의 접근용이성 분석 = The Reception of Yun Dong-ju’s Poetry in Mass Art: I : An Analysis of Easy Accessibility in the <Yun Dong-ju, Shooting the Moon>

국문 초록 (Abstract)

순수예술 중에서도 ‘시’는 자율성이 강한 장르여서 대중예술의 콘텐츠로활용되기 어려운 것으로 여겨진다. 이 논문은 윤동주의 시가 뮤지컬 <윤동주, 달을 쏘다>로 매체 전환되는 과정에서, 대중의 ‘접근용이성’을 확보하기위해 어떠한 전략을 사용했는지를 분석한 것이다.
<윤동주, 달을 쏘다>는 대중적 수용 기반을 확보하기 위해 첫째, 시는낭송으로 처리하고 뮤지컬 넘버는 직설적인 가사로 구성하여 시의 난해함이 극의 흐름을 방해하지 않게 하였다. 둘째, 극의 서사를 ‘시 쓰기’와 ‘항일’ 의 대립 구도로 단순화하여 관객이 극을 쉽게 이해할 수 있게 했다. 셋째, 실재하지 않은 여성 인물 ‘이선화’를 투입해 보편적인 청춘 로맨스를 가미함으로써 관객의 감정 이입을 유도했다. 넷째, 서사 전개와 무관한 화려한 군무와 시각적 스펙터클을 배치하여 감각적인 즐거움을 극대화했다. 다섯째, <내 고향으로 날 보내주>라는 한국인들에게 익숙한 미국 영가를 여러 차례뮤지컬 넘버로 사용함으로써, 관객들이 극의 정서를 쉽게 이해할 수 있게하였다.
<윤동주, 달을 쏘다>는 서사의 단순화와 풍부한 볼거리, 청춘 로맨스 가미, 익숙한 가요의 뮤지컬 넘버화를 통해 대중들이 쉽게 윤동주의 시와 삶에접근할 수 있게 만든 뮤지컬이라고 할 수 있겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Poetry is often regarded as a highly autonomous art form, making its adaptation into popular art difficult. Nevertheless, the poetry and life of Yun Dong-ju have inspired musicals, films, and children’s plays that have achieved both cultural and commercial success. This paper examines the strategies employed in the musical 〈Yun Dong-ju, Shooting the Moon〉 to make Yun’s poetry accessible to a broad audience.
To enhance accessibility, the production adopted several approaches. First, Yun’s poems were presented through recitation, while songs employed direct and easily understandable lyrics. Second, the narrative was simplified into a clear opposition between “writing poetry” and “resisting Japanese colonial rule,” allowing audiences to grasp the story intuitively. Third, a fictional female character, Lee Sun-hwa, was introduced to create a romantic subplot and encourage emotional engagement. Fourth, large-scale dance sequences and visual spectacles were used to increase sensory appeal. Finally, the familiar American spiritual 〈Send Me Back to My Homeland〉 was repeatedly incorporated to strengthen emotional resonance and clarify the production’s message.
Through these strategies, audiences could readily understand Yun Dong-ju's poetic resistance to colonial oppression. In the process, the musical reduced some of the complexity and autonomy of Yun's poetry while enhancing accessibility, emotional engagement, and visual enjoyment.
