한국어 조사의 목록 연구 = A Study on the List of Korean Particles

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국어의 조사 수가 몇 개나 되는지는 한국어문법의 연구와 서술, 한국어의 교육과 학습에도움이 되는 정보이지만 그 답을 찾기는 쉽지 않다. 100개 내외라고 알려져 있는 정도이다. 조사 수를 정확히 헤아리기 위해서는 주어진 요소가 조사인지 아닌지, 조사라면 조사 둘을 기계적으로 이은 것은 아닌지, 그리고 두 요소가 같은 조사의 변이형인지 아닌지 등을 따져야 한다. 쉽게 합의에 이르기 어려운 이 문제들을 우회해 당면한 요구에 응할 수 있는 한 방법은 『표준국어대사전』의 조사 표제어를 기준으로 삼는 것이다.
『표준국어대사전』의 조사 표제어는 모두 180개이다. 이 가운데 현대한국어 표준어가 아닌18개 항목과 조사로 인정하기 어려운 서술격조사 ‘이다’를 제외하면 161개가 남는다. 여기에서변이형들 가운데 대표형 하나만 남기고, 본말과 준말 중 본말만 남기면 101개가 남는다. 그리고 조사 둘이 기계적으로 이어진 형태 17개를 제외하면 84개가 남는다. 이 84개가 현대한국어의 조사 전체 수이다. 조사의 유형별로 격조사 36개, 보조사 41개, 접속조사 10개이다. 격조사용법과 접속조사 용법을 동시에 가지고 있는 조사 3개를 중복하지 않고 합산하면 84개이다.
<국제 통용 한국어 표준 교육과정 개발> 사업의 등급별 조사 목록과 <한국어교수학습샘터>의 초중급 조사 목록을 참고하면 이 84개는 초급 25개, 중급 22개, 고급 7개, 기타 30개로 나눌수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The exact number of particles (josa) in Korean is valuable information for grammatical research, description, and the teaching and learning of the language; however, finding a definitive answer to it is no easy task. It is generally known to be around 100. To accurately count them, one must determine whether a given element is truly a particle, ensure it isn’t a combination of two separate particles, and decide whether two elements are merely variants of the same particle. One way to meet immediate needs while bypassing these complex issues is to use the entry list of particles in the Standard Korean Language Dictionary as a baseline.
There are a total of 180 particle entries in the Standard Korean Language Dictionary. Excluding 18 items that are not part of standard Modern Korean and the so-called predicative particle ida which is difficult to categorize strictly as a particle, 161 remains. If we keep only the representative form among variants and the full form over the abbreviated one, 101 remain. Furthermore, excluding 17 forms that are simple combinations of two particles leaves 84.
There are 36 case particles, 41 supplementary particles, and 10 conjunctive particles by type. Excluding duplicates for the 3 particles that possess both case and conjunctive usages, the total sum is 84. These 84 represent the total number of particles in Modern Korean. Based on the graded particle lists from the Development of the Standard Curriculum for International Korean Language Education and the beginner/intermediate lists from the Korean Language Teaching & Learning Center, these 84 particles can be categorized into 25 for the beginner level, 22 for intermediate, 7 for advanced, and 30 for others.
