Recently, weathering granite soil has been used in soil structures, embankment material i.e. foundations. Many field loading conditions produce essentially all deformations within one plane. A particularly important example of this type involves the stability analysis of an earth dam.
The study is to research its strength and deformation characteristics of compacted weathering granite soil under plane strain condition. The tests performed plane strain test and cubical triaxial compression test by plane strain apparatus which has improved cubical triaxial apparatus. The specimens used these tests were rotated on X, Y axis after weathering granite soil remolded in the laboratory. As the results of this study, the results of the conventional triaxial compression test have underestimated in low confining pressure and have overestimated in high confining pressure for the characteristic of weathering granite soil.
