This paper aims to examine the cases of William Morris’s Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), an architectural conservation movement that responded to the rapid changes during the late 19th-century British Industrial Revolution era. It is considered that the ambiguity in the interpretation of the preservation and restoration of buildings due to the rapid social changes in 20th-century Korea is related to the interpretation of historical architectural culture. Therefore, by examining the cases of architectural conservation movements centered around the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) at that time, it seeks to present the direction of protection of historic buildings.
