Busan Daegaksa Temple is a temple of the Jogye Order (Address: 1-ga Sinchang-dong Jung-gu, Busan), which is located in the center of the fashion street of Gwangbok-dong, downtown Busan, unlike other temples. It was formerly ‘Busan Branch Temple of Dongbonwonsa Temple, belonging to Bonwonsa Temple of Jinjongdaegokpa of Japanese Buddhism founded on November 5, 1877. It is the temple founded first by the Japanese people, which has a significant meaning, marking a milestone in the modern history of Korea. This study would discuss the historical meaning of the ‘space’ of South Korean and Japanese Buddhism appearing in the history of 100 years, starting from Busan Branch Temple of Dongbonwonsa Temple in 1877 to Daegaksa Temple in 1976. For this purpose, this study would investigate the status of the propagation activities and various projects of Busan Branch Temple of Dongbonwonsa Temple starting 1877 and the dispute over the ownership surrounding the Daegaksa Temple space in the South Korean Buddhist Community after the restoration of independence until 1976.
