Purpose: The development and innovation of information and communication technology has caused a substantial change in the personal life. This study investigates the impact of smartphone on the life of university student users by identifying the degree of smartphone addiction and the quality of life. Method: A total of 219 nursing students from a university was randomly collected, and 201 students responded to a survey specifically designed for the current study. SPSS (version 20.0) was used to perform descriptive analysis, T-test, ANOVA, post-test Scheffe, and Pearson correlation. Result: Most students used their smartphone in the class (91%). The use of smartphone in class and smartphone addiction was highly associated (t= -2.09, p=.04). The level of smartphone use and the quality of life was also significantly correlated (r = -.18, p = .01). Conclusion:. Smartphone use in class is an indirect measure of smartphone addiction and low quality of life among university students. Students need to use smartphone in class as little as possible to decrease the risk of addiction and to increase the quality of life on campus.
