This study is aimed to Shamanic tradition aspects of the shamans in Sejong city. For this aim, I met many shamans living and researched some shamans of long periods residence in Sejong city.
Research in this study has become targets Yu Ok-sang who is a shaman and acts in Sejong city as a base. He was born in 1942 and suffered from being possessed by a sprit in his late 30. And then he jumped into the shamanism. He is a Baksu-shaman being able to recite sutras as well as predict the future, bring a message from the “other side(afterlife)” He is the Baksu-shaman by comparison with most female shamans are kinds of monks reciting sutras in this area generally. In this respect he is a measurable shaman in Sejong city.
There are several topics of research about him. First, when did he suffer from being possessed by a sprit? Second, what kind of way was to accept a sprit with? accept in any way? Third, what sutras did you learn to be a shaman? Fourth, How was the classes of handling the instruments, such as Jing(징, meaning gong), Buk(북, meaning a drum)? Fifth, How did you learn to make the shaman tools of korean paper. Sixth, what exorcism did you have confidence in? Seventh, How is the social life with other shamans? Eighth, how is the procedures of shaman activities as a shaman? etc.
I induced his faithful answers to the topics by the interview. The contents he said are summarized as follows.
In short, such as this research could be strong private life of meaning. But the majority of data were integrated, it can comprehend the universality of those areas. That is to say, shamanic tradition aspects are identified by integrated data in Sejong city. This thesis is relevant here.
