Catalytic activity over Pt/Al₂O₃, Pt-Mn/Al₂O₃ and Pt/Ba-Al₂O₃ catalysts for oxidation of carbon black simulating the soot of diesel particulate matters to CO₂ has been investigated with model gases of diesel emission. Two stages of catalyst with the strategies of promoting the catalytic activity for carbon oxidation and total catalytic oxidation for partial oxidized products, simultaneously, was composed of the oxidation catalyst for carbon black and the Pt catalyst. The catalytic oxidation for carbon black to CO₂ was accelerated by activated oxidants and some exothermic reaction over the oxidation catalyst which lies in upstream of two stages. Two stages of catalyst composed of Pt/Al₂O₃ in upstream and Pt-Mn/Al₂O₃ with carbon black in downstream showed high catalytic oxidation activity for carbon black to CO₂ with 80% consumption rate of carbon black to total loaded carbon black in the range of 350-500℃.
