자기결정의 필수구성영역 중의 하나가 자율성이다. 발달지체학생들의 자율행동 증진을 위해서는 먼저 독립생활ᆞ위험 무릅쓰기 및 안전기능 습득에 관한 훈련과 모의체험활동이 필요하다.
이 연구에서는 발달지체학생들의 자율성 증진을 위한 방안으로 첫째, 독립과 안전기능 습득의 필요성 둘째, 독립ᆞ건강안전에 관한 교육과정 영역과 지도내용 셋째, 자율성 증진방법을 살펴보는데 주안점을 두었다.
여기서 제시된 내용들은 발달지체교사들과 부모 및 지도자들에게 실질적인 지도지침을 제공해 줄 수 있을 것이다.
