      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Cheburashka is one of the most recognized and beloved
animated characters in Russia and the former Soviet
Union. The small, furry brown creature with big eyes, a
round face, and saucer-like ears, has withstood the
onslaught of Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters
since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
This paper explored the character storytelling of Russian
Cheburashka films. The Cheburashka is a Russian fairy
tale creature from a story by writer Eduard Uspensky.
The first stop-motion animated film, created by
Soyuzmultifilm and directed by Roman Kachanov, came out
in 1969 followed by three more in 1971, 1974 and 1983.
An artist at Soyuzmultifilm, Leonid Shvartsman created his
      image.
Accidently trapped in a crate of oranges, Cheburashka is
shipped from a tropical forest to a Soviet town where an
orange-vendor discovers him. The vendor takes him to
the zoo, but he is rejected. Because Cheburashka is a
creature unknown to science, he could not be classified,
and nobody knew where to put him. He ends up living in
a phone booth, alone and friendless, but soon finds his
place. Cheburashka hangs around with a friendly crocodile
Gena, who wears a hat and a coat, walking on his hind
      legs and plays an accordion.
Cheburashka and Gena have their adventures made
difficult by a character named "Shapoklyak". Like the old
woman "Baba-yaga" of Russian folklore, Shapoklyak is tall
and thin, wears a hat and a dark-colored dress. She
spends her time playing tricks on people but has moments
      of goodness.
The first film focuses on the theme of friendship and
cooperation. They build a house called "House of
Friendship". In the second film, Cheburashka and Gena do
good deeds in order to become accepted by a group of
Soviet scouts. A very popular children's song, "Too Bad
Birthdays Only Come Once a Year" appears in this film.
Cheburashka is now a staple of Russian cartoons, and
there are several licensed products on the market, such as
children's books, stuffed toys and gifts. Cheburashka also
      became known in some countries.
